move-it-lose-it

From having to live a fit and healthy lifestyle for my military career to competing in bodybuilding, to my cancer rehabilitation and then getting ready for the Invictus Games London 2014. I'm all too familiar with how to move it or lose it.

Our bodies (muscular + skeletal systems) are created and designed for movement. Therefore, if we don't move our bodies will slowly deteriorate. Hence the all too familiar term of move it or lose it. So how do we move them and for how long?

We humans are great at over complicating things that don't need complicating, like exercise for example. It's not what we do or for how long that's important, it's simply about moving our bodies.  You just get up, get out of the house and move your body at least once every day. Find what suits you and your lifestyle and just do it. Then do it daily. Consistency is key here.

All too often I hear people use the excuse of they're not inspired or motivated to exercise. But let me ask you this question. Do you jump out of bed inspired and motivated of a morning to brush your teeth? No! Then why do you need to be inspired or motivated before you can exercise? Don't think about it, just do it! We do it because we know it's necessary, and it's also good for our health, fitness, mobility and longevity. Once it becomes a positive habit, then the inspiration and motivation will come. I promise.

Here are just a few things I do these days to move it or lose it:

Being a perpetual student of life who loves to live and learn my workouts and exercise programs evolve based on my bodies wants and needs. Try it, listen to your body. Let it tell you what you feel like doing and do it. Trust your intuition; you'll be surprised.

So what are you going to do today to move it or lose it? Do you have a favourite way to move your body? If so, share it with me by leaving a comment below.

On that note, I'm off to move it!
